The inaugural Sacred Art Live!™ Louisiana brought together over 20 Catholic sacred artists from around the world, attracting more than 600 guests and 1,200 students to St. Thomas More Catholic High School for a one-day celebration of faith and artistry. “The goal of this exhibition was to provide an opportunity for people to encounter God through sacred art, a medium that has been intrinsically linked to expressions of faith and worship throughout the history of the Church," said Dr. Claire Masterson, STM Assistant Principal. “STM was honored to lead this effort, as we know that introducing our students and community members to the power of art to communicate meaning can draw them into closer union with our Lord, which is what He desires for us.”
The event featured traditional iconography, Renaissance-inspired paintings, and contemporary religious works. Notable artists included Al Sauls (Houston, TX), Robert Puschautz (Tyler, TX), Amber Knorr (Steubenville, OH), William K. Stidham (San Miguel de Allende, Mexico), George Capps (Goretti Fine Art, Missouri), Kate Capato (Philadelphia, PA), and Timothy Schmalz (Canada). Louisiana was well represented by local artists such as Jacob Zumo, Kathryn Mancuso, and Faye Drobnic. The exhibition welcomed esteemed guests, including members of the St. Louis IX Society of Art, Dr. Jordan Haddad, and Catholic Legacy Foundation President Monica Zuschlag, who emphasized the event’s role in fostering faith-based community engagement.
Jennifer P. Angelle, President of Angel Publishing and co-creator for LA effort, underscored the mission: “This event was free for all—artists and attendees alike— thanks to dedicated supporters. Our goal is to highlight living classical Catholic artists and encourage the integration of sacred art into homes, businesses, and community spaces.” Angelle is compiling a companion book to be published that will showcase a diverse collection of reflections, meditations, and original artwork contributed by living artists and faith leaders from around the world. Sacred Art Live!™ Louisiana was inspired by a successful Texas model, with organizers hoping to expand the initiative nationally. “People thirst for beauty, truth, and goodness,” said Larry Massey of the Scanlan Foundation.
“This is about reconnecting sacred artists with the world and reclaiming their place in our culture.” Guests had the opportunity to purchase and commission artwork, receive Lenten takeaways, and connect with artists.
